Domain 8: Global and Multicultural Perspectives
10:30-11:10
Elaboration:
For health, I invited a friend of mine who is a nursing student to come in and talk with my children about how to wash their hands. We also talked about germs. I taught part of the lesson and she taught part of it. This was a great way to involve someone from the community, even if it is my own community. The students listened well and were intrigued by our visitor.
Analysis:
By allowing students to meet and hear from people who have different jobs in the community, students can gain a better understanding of how they can take their place in the community. They can also understand what community members can help them with certain things. School is only one of the places that we learn. Students can gain a broader perspective of their community and the world through learning experiences such as this one.

What a wonderful idea! This was a benefit to you, your friend, and the students. It's amazing how much of an influence an unfamiliar face can have on our students. It's like a field trip right in the classroom.
