Domain 7: Communication
Elaboration:
Yesterday, after school one of the students whom I had given a consequence for was very angry at me. However, one of the things that I have discovered with third graders is that they usually forget things that happened by the next day. This morning, he came in and was still very angry at me. He was rude and disrespectful and tried to ignore me. He told me that he wasn't going to listen to me because I didn't care about him anymore. I told him that I did care about him, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to receive consequences. He has continually been telling me what things are and aren't my job. I have been trying to remind him of what his job is as a student.
Analysis:
I think I may try making a behavior contract with this particular student. He often talks about "my job" or "his job". I think writing them out in a concrete way and having some form of visual to represent that would be good. I think I will write it up and then use some sort of check mark system to gain some type of reward. I think that an agreement like this would work well and communicate to him more positively than a clip strip. I will give him check marks for staying on task, following procedures, and completing assignments.
